For the Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels, the fifth round of the ADAC Nürburgring Endurance Series brought both highs and lows. The team, led by team manager Matthias Unger, won the V5 and V6 classes as well as the BMW M240i Racing Cup. However, they also suffered a setback in the championship battle.
“First of all, I am pleased that we have successfully started the second half of the season with a total of three class wins. Unfortunately, this time we leave the Nürburgring not only with a smile, but also with a tear in our eye, since our two championship contenders unfortunately could not finish the race. Nevertheless, we will continue to do everything possible in the remaining three races of the season, as we still have a chance to defend the title with a little luck,” says team manager Matthias Unger.
As in previous NLS races, the ADAC 24h Qualifiers, and the 24-hour race, Adrenalin Motorsport once again triumphed in the BMW M240i class. This time, however, for the first time this season, the ’651 Veedol BMW M240i came out on top. Yannik Sky and Nico Silva prevailed ahead of their teammates Lars Harbeck and Christian Kraus after the four-hour race.
The previous class dominators and NLS championship leaders Sven Markert and Toby Goodman, reinforced by Danny Brink, lacked the necessary racing luck. They had to retire early from the race due to technical problems with the Maxsel Energy BMW M240i. The ’653 GTÜ BMW M240i, with Andrie Hartanto and Leonid Petrov at the wheel, also did not see the chequered flag after an accident on the final lap.
In the V5 class, Ulrich Korn, Tobias Korn, and Daniel Korn continued where they had left off three weeks earlier at the 24h race. The driver trio once again secured victory in their ’444 Neufeld-KFZ Porsche Cayman.
Christian Büllesbach, Lutz Marc Rühl, Andreas Schettler, and Daniel Zils once again piloted the No. 396 NEXEN-TIRES Porsche Cayman S not only to a class win in V6 but also to overall victory in the NLS production car classification group. The rider quartet’s joy was accordingly great during the honouring ceremony on the overall podium.
Philipp Leisen, Daniel Zils, and Moran Gott delivered their usual strong performance. After securing pole position in qualifying, they were also leading the race until another vehicle in the Mercedes Arena missed the braking point and caused massive damage to the rear of the No. 1 BMW 330i Mainhattan-Wheels. The resulting damage forced the Adrenalin drivers to retire prematurely.
In the CUP3 class, the day began very promisingly from the perspective of Adrenalin Motorsport. David Griessner timed his qualifying run perfectly in the mixed conditions and secured pole position with the No. 930 Mainhattan-Wheels Porsche Cayman GT4. He had high hopes for the race, together with his teammates Stefan Kruse and Lidsey Brett. However, an accident on the very first lap of the race ended all hopes for a strong result.
