The most powerful homologated racing car in the history of the Mercedes-AMG customer sports programme celebrates its racing premiere: This weekend, the Mercedes-AMG GT2 makes its debut under racing conditions after an intensive testing and development phase as part of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers.

The stated goal of this mission is the consistent further development of the Mercedes-AMG GT2 under the most demanding race conditions, which are expected during the two ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. In recent months, the newest member of the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing family has already completed a comprehensive preparation programme for this purpose.

With a maximum output of 707 hp and 800 Newton metres of torque, it is the most powerful homologated customer racing car produced by Mercedes-AMG in the twelve-year history of its customer sports programme. However, the actual performance of the vehicle at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and in other racing series will ultimately depend on the set Balance of Performance (BoP). At the 24h Race at the Nürburgring and the 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers, Veedol driver Elia Erhart will share the wheel with Mercedes-AMG performance driver Thomas Jäger, as well as Frank Bird and Jörg Viebahn.

Elia Erhart: “It is a great honour for me to be able to drive the new Mercedes-AMG GT2 in its first two races at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and to work with the experienced team from Mercedes-AMG Team HRT. The test drives were already extremely promising. The car feels fantastic and is a lot of fun to drive. Accordingly, my anticipation for the two weekends is huge, especially for the 24h Race mission. I’ll be counting down the days until it finally begins.”

The ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers are widely regarded as an important dress rehearsal for the endurance highlight of the season — the traditional 24-hour race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife on 20 and 21 May.
